As a Christian community of the Catholic faithful, we are called to live the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. His life exemplified openness, acceptance, and service. With open mind, heart, and arms he truly welcomed all who came to him in need. He recognized the value of each person and responded to each accordingly. Over two thousand years later, we continue to be fascinated and warmed by His generous love and presence.

Through our baptism, we are called to witness to this same ministry. The Lord’s mission is the Church’s mission and is thus our mission – to share the work of Christ and to share the presence of Christ with all people with whom we live, work and worship.

Our Church, a House of Faith where all are welcome, is a sign and testament to God’s glory and our willingness to gather together God’s people in the many facets of our lives of faith: worship, service, education, stewardship, and community life.

Under the guidance of the Guardian Angels, we are called to a life of discipleship celebrating His presence, working for the coming of God’s Kingdom as we reach out to all His people. We invite our parishioners to join us as active and supportive partners as together we build up God’s Kingdom in this local Church of Clawson and as we strive to minister to those in need locally and globally. We are members of one family, baptized in the same faith and united in the same loving God.

“If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow so that as I have done for you, you should also do. ~John 13:14-15

Completing a Protecting God’s Children workshop is a requirement of the Archdiocese of Detroit for adult volunteers (18 and over) working with children in any capacity. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Sponsorship

RCIA sponsorship involves the sharing of your faith with someone who is new to our faith tradition.  The sponsor serves as a mentor for a candidate/catechumen who is in the RCIA program and is journeying toward full initiation into the Catholic Church.

Sponsorship is open to anyone who themselves are fully initiated and active members of the Catholic Church.  They must have a deep desire to share their faith and deepen their relationship with God.  A solid prayer life is a must and the availability to participate in the RCIA sessions on Sunday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 is needed.  These sessions meet weekly from September  through early May.

To volunteer or if you have questions please contact Steve Petty at or call the parish office at (248) 588-1222.

Children’s Catechumenate Catechist/Sponsorship

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The ministry of Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion is a privilege and an awe-filled ministry. All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread and wine. (Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds in the Dioceses of the United States of America #29).

Training will be provided to all those interested in this ministry. If you are confirmed Catholic, are in good standing with the church, are over the age of 16 and are interested in this ministry please call (248) 588-1222.

The ministry of Lector is to proclaim the Word of God for the assembly with conviction and boldness that comes from study and preparation. You allow God to use your voice to communicate with the assembly.   When the Scriptures are read in Church, God himself is speaking to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, is proclaiming the Gospel.” (GIRM #29)

The ministry of commentator “provides the faithful with brief explanations and commentaries with the purpose of introducing them to the celebration and preparing them to understand it better.” GIRM #105b

Training will be provided to all those interested in this ministry.  If you are confirmed Catholic, are in good standing with the church, are over the age of 16 and are interested in this ministry please call (248) 588-1222.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s-Liturgy-of-the-Word (CLOW) will be at the 11:00 a.m. Mass on most Sundays of a given month.  After the Opening Prayer, children and trained facilitators will receive a special blessing and be dismissed to the CLOW Prayer Room where the children will hear the exact same readings that the adults hear in the Church, but these readings will be from the approved Children’s Lectionary.  The facilitators, through questions and answers, discussion, input or activity will offer a “lesson” to the children as the adults in the Church listen to Father’s homily.  After praying the Creed and Petitions, the children will return to the Church as the General Intercessions are finishing in the Church with the adults.  CLOW will be focused on all parish children (school, faith formation or home-school children) in grades K-3.

We are in need of lead trained facilitators and assistants!  The lead trained facilitator is responsible for preparing the children’s reflections in advance, setting up the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) before the 11:00 am Mass and cleaning up the room when CLOW is completed.  Training is available!  The assistant is responsible for helping set up the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) before the 11:00 am Mass, gathering the children during the readings and reflection given by the lead facilitator, and helping to clean up the room when CLOW is completed.  This is a great opportunity for teens and adults!  If you would like to help, please contact Heather Pike through the Parish Office at (248) 588-1222.

The ministry of Sacristan is to carefully prepare vessels, books and other things necessary in the celebration of the Mass along with cleaning of vessels after the Mass. A Sacristan also assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs to be done. The Sacristan will check to make sure the Altar Servers are ready and in place as well as making sure the assigned Lectors and all Extraordinary Ministers are present and ready to serve. The sacristan may also take the role of Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion as needed at the celebration of the Mass.

Training will be provided to all those interested in this ministry. If you are confirmed Catholic, are in good standing with the church, are over the age of 16 and are interested in this ministry please call (248) 588-1222.

The ministry of usher is one of hospitality and welcoming. Their various responsibilities include but are not limited to the seating of parishioners, assistance when needed, collecting offerings, making sure those with special needs receive communion. Besides various duties, they are often the first persons the assembly seeks out to solve a problem they may have. This ministry is open to all who would like to offer their services in welcoming and hospitality those who enter our church

Funeral Sacristan

The ministry of funeral sacristan is very similar to sacristan at a regular weekend Mass. (Please see sacristan description). A sacristan assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs to be done specific to a funeral Mass. Also, for a funeral Mass, the sacristan maybe asked to lector and/or be the extraordinary minister of Holy Communion if the family has not identified anyone to perform these roles.

Altar Servers

All children in our parish school or faith formation program in grades 4-8 are invited to be a Guardian Angels Altar Server. They have the primary task of assisting the priests and deacons with the many liturgical functions that take place within this communal prayer.

All involved gain an understanding of liturgical terminology and are offered an interesting perspective on the celebration of the Eucharist.

In addition to the weekend Masses, students at Guardian Angels school also have the option to serve daily Masses and/or funerals during the day. There are currently over 100 students who assist in these varied capacities but there is always room for more!

Any and all students interested should call the parish office (248) 588-1222 and contact John David Kuhar at

Music Ministry

“Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance.” (Music in Catholic Worship, 23)

To serve as a music minister in the Catholic Church is a privilege as well as a serious responsibility. It is a privilege because the gift of music is not given to everyone and it is a responsibility because musical leadership must foster the “full, conscious and active participation” of the assembly.

Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and to nourish and strengthen their commitment of faith. As you respond to your call to music ministry in the Catholic Church, you take on a beautiful task to help nourish and sustain the liturgical life of the people through the gift of song.

Please contact Dr. Matt Daniels at if you are interested in the Music Ministry or call the parish office at (248) 588-1222
