The role of our St. Vincent de Paul council is to provide assistance to individuals or families who find themselves in basic need for subsistence.  Members interview those who arrive at the parish requesting help or may conduct a home visit to the poor or needy to evaluate their needs and to provide assistance.  Guardian Angels is able to provide food baskets and help provide for medical and utility needs.  Special projects consist of a semi-annual clothing collection and collections to provide for summer camp programs and the special needs of our clients.  Oplatki and calendar sales are other fund raisers.

Membership in the council requires a concern for those in need, rational decision-making and respect for confidentiality of the client.  Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings throughout the year.  For more information or to volunteer to assist or to join contact the parish office at (248) 588-1222

Our annual Christmas Giving Tree program looks a lot different this year as a result of Covid-19. The need is greater than ever, but we had to get a bit more creative to assist those most in need this Christmas. You won’t see any trees with gift tags in the narthex – we cannot distribute any gifts, other than gift cards this year. We are asking you to either purchase gift cards or make a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul.

We have notified the Giving Tree recipients – families served by our own St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jail Outreach for Families, Mary’s Children, Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit – that instead of wrapped gifts, we will provide gift cards so that they may shop for their families and/or those in their care.

If you would like to help a family in need this holiday season, please purchase a gift card(s) from one of the following retailers (in increments of $25 each):

            • Meijer
            • Kroger
            • Walmart
            • Target
            • Amazon

We also accept monetary donations for utilities, rent and prescriptions. Checks must be made out to “Guardian Angels SVDP”.

Your gift may be placed in an envelope and dropped in the offertory in the church narthex at Mass on Saturday or Sunday, returned to the parish office during weekday hours, or mailed to the above address. All gifts must be returned to us no later than November 13th, allowing us time to sort and schedule early pickups so that our recipients have time to Christmas shop.

You have always been very generous, and we thank you.  We know this year will be no exception. May God bless you and your families, and may 2021 bring us renewed hope and peace.
