Help make all those who visit our parish feel welcome. Get to know our parishioners and visitors through conversation and building up relationships at various parish events.

Our Hospitality Team assists in the social ministry of the parish throughout the year as events are scheduled including the Feast Day/Parish Picnic, Donut Sundays, Confirmation Reception, and other activities as they arise.

Our parish greeters are a friendly face to those who come to worship at Guardian Angels. The mission is to welcome parishioners and guests and assist them with their needs. This is a great ministry for families to be involved in together!

Each catechist in a classroom setting presents the basic elements of the Catholic Faith in a loving, prayerful environment to children in grades 1-8.  The catechist is responsible for preparing and teaching a weekly lesson from late September through early May.

Training is received through the parish and certification is offered by the Archdiocese of Detroit.  Certification topics are offered at various times through Guardian Angels parish, our Vicariate, and the Archdiocese throughout the year.

A catechist assistant helps the catechist with various duties he/she may need help with, i.e. copies, sorting, student projects, etc.

The adult youth ministry team helps with the planning, scheduling and implementing of parish-wide youth ministry, including youth group gatherings, service projects, recruitment, retreats, and special events.

OCIA sponsorship involves the sharing of your faith with someone who is new to our faith tradition.  The sponsor serves as a mentor for a candidate/catechumen who is in the OCIA program and is journeying toward full initiation into the Catholic Church.

Sponsorship is open to anyone who themselves are fully initiated and active members of the Catholic Church.  They must have a deep desire to share their faith and deepen their relationship with God.  A solid prayer life is a must and the availability to participate in the OCIA sessions on Sunday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 is needed.  These sessions meet weekly from September  through early May.

A Children’s Catechumenate Catechist/Sponsorship would involve with young people (grades 3 – 8), who have missed at least one Sacrament of Initiation.  The process is similar to that of the OCIA for Adults.

This is  a mandatory program for engaged couples who wish to be married at Guardian Angels.  It consists of six sessions of pre-marriage preparation taught by trained sponsor couples from the parish who are active in the Church and who have been married for many years.

Sponsor Couples speak on a range of topics pertinent to the engaged couple.  Each engaged couple is assigned a sponsor couple who will share their faith and their marriage experience.  The sponsor couple also assists the engaged couple at their wedding rehearsal and on the wedding day itself.

The ministry of Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion is a privilege and an awe-filled ministry. All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread and wine. (Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds in the Dioceses of the United States of America #29).

The ministry of Lector is to proclaim the Word of God for the assembly with conviction and boldness that comes from study and preparation. You allow God to use your voice to communicate with the assembly.   When the Scriptures are read in Church, God himself is speaking to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, is proclaiming the Gospel.” (GIRM #29)

The ministry of commentator “provides the faithful with brief explanations and commentaries with the purpose of introducing them to the celebration and preparing them to understand it better.” GIRM #105b

The ministry of Sacristan is to carefully prepare vessels, books and other things necessary in the celebration of the Mass along with cleaning of vessels after the Mass. A Sacristan also assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs to be done. The Sacristan will check to make sure the Altar Servers are ready and in place as well as making sure the assigned Lectors and all Extraordinary Ministers are present and ready to serve. The sacristan may also take the role of Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion as needed at the celebration of the Mass.

The ministry of funeral sacristan is very similar to sacristan at a regular weekend Mass. (Please see sacristan description). A sacristan assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs to be done specific to a funeral Mass. Also, for a funeral Mass, the sacristan maybe asked to lector and/or be the extraordinary minister of Holy Communion if the family has not identified anyone to perform these roles.

All children in our parish school or faith formation program from 4th grade onwards are invited to be a Guardian Angels Altar Server. They have the primary task of assisting the priests and deacons with the many liturgical functions that take place within this communal prayer.

All involved gain an understanding of liturgical terminology and are offered an interesting perspective on the celebration of the Eucharist.

“Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance.” (Music in Catholic Worship, 23)

To serve as a music minister in the Catholic Church is a privilege as well as a serious responsibility. It is a privilege because the gift of music is not given to everyone and it is a responsibility because musical leadership must foster the “full, conscious and active participation” of the assembly.

Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and to nourish and strengthen their commitment of faith. As you respond to your call to music ministry in the Catholic Church, you take on a beautiful task to help nourish and sustain the liturgical life of the people through the gift of song.
